The second capital of Egypt and the largest port, and the greatest
summer resort in the Middle East, located on the Mediterranean Sea,
north west of Delta, 220 Kilo meters away from Cairo, Names after
Alexander the Macedonian who ordered it foundation in 332 B.C. on
the site of small city called Rhaktos to be the capital of the reign
in Egypt. A port near to his country and a Greek culture center.
Since its foundation, Alexandria remains for many centuries a center
f culture radiation in the whole world, it occupied a remarkable
place in the history of mankind.
Alexandria is distinguished by its location, moderate climate and
sandy beaches which cover a large area between North coast andEl-
Agamy in the west and Abu Qir in the east .
Beaches : Alexandria is distinguished by its sandy beaches,
the most famous are frome east to west, Al- mamoura, Al-Montazah,
Al-Mandara, Al-Assafra, Mimami. Sidi Bishr, San Stefano, Gleem,
Satnley, Roushdy, Sidi Gaber, Cleopatra, Ibrahimia, Shatby,,,,, etc
All of then extend the Cornish , on the west of Alexandria there is
Al-Agamy and in the east there is Abu-Qir , these area are famous
for its ultra blue and transparent waters.
Montazah palace: It was the summer residence of the Royal
family, located on a high hill overlooking the most beautiful beach
of Alexandria, its comprise of a group of buildings which are the
most important are El-Haramlek of which the first storey has been
transformed to international casino, the second and the third storey
into a museum for the belongings of the former family, also there is
El-Salamlek building that has been transformed into a luxurious
hotel.
Another hotel also been built in the garden overlooking the bay and

Alexandria Archaeological
Sites
The Graeco-Roman Theater
: it is houses Graeco-Roman
collections, about 40 0000 pieces dating from the beginning of the
third century B.C. till the seventh century A.D., the most important
is "Tanagra" statues. There are also a rare collection of Greek
coins.

Pompey`s Pillar : it dated from the third century, its made
of granite over 25 meter high, and the last of the remaining relics
of he Serapium. The pillar was erected in the honor of Emperor
Diocletian clcik for gallery.
The Roman Amphitheatre
: A small amphitheatre recently
discovered in the area of Kom Al-Dekka near the Roman museum, its
consists of 12 rows of cemi-cerculer marble seats and considered the
only relic of its kind in Egypt.
Kom El-Shokafa Catacombs
: They consists of three levels cut
in the rooks 100 feet's deep, they date back to the turn of the
second century, it is blend to Pharoanic and Roman arts.

Mustafa Kamel Tombs : Located in the Roman camp streets in
Roushdy district, they are 4 catacombs from the Ptolemaic era,
dating back to the second century B.C., a unique subterranean
rock-hewn tomb, as it is the only tomb discovered east of Alexandria
and it is distinguished from the rest of Ptolemaic by its well
preserved reliefs and architectural style.
Al- Anfushi Tombs:
In front of Ras El-Teen entrance . there
are 5 tombs in the area, tow of them are considered the most
important, they were discovered at 1901, they are dated from the
Ptolemaic era in the thisrd century B.C. , the two tombs are
distinguished by their beautiful engravings and unique architectural

Al Satby Necropolis
: Located in north of Saint Mark College
opposite to the sea, its consist of an entrance and corridor, a
front room and an interior one, several parts for burial where added
to it in later centuries, its date from the thirds century B.C. and
is built on the ancient Greek houses style.
Alexandria Landmarks
Various religious tourist sites are wide speared in Alexandria, of
which are : The Jewish syriagogue ion El-Nabi Daniel Street , Saint
Marc church established in the first century A.D. by Saint Marcus,
Saint Catherine church and Abu Mina Monastery which lied 50 Km. from
Alexandria.
Al- Mursi Aby El Abbas mosque : Situated in El- Anfushi , and
considered one of the most important land marks in Alexandria with
its towering minarets and 4 domes.
Al- Attareen mosque : Sitauted in Al-Attareen market, it is
lies next to the old Amr Ibn El-As mosque, and was known as the one
thousand pillar mosque, it is back to the 14 century.
Qayet Bey Citadle: Built on the northern tip of the eastern
port, in the site where the ancient Pharos of Alexandria was, it was
built in the 15th century and consists of three storeys similar to
medieval fortresses in Egypt, it houses the naval museum which
revives the marine heritage of Alexandria .
The Aquarium : Next to Qayet Bey in Al-Anfushi bay, its
contains rare species of fishes and marine life in Egypt.
Museum of The Fine Arts : Located in El- Mansheya street in
Moharam Bey district, and contains a number of works of sculpture,
painting and architecture where many exhibitors of contemporary art
are held.
Museum of The Royal Family Jewelry : It was set in Fatma
El-Zahraa palace in Alexandria , Zizinia district, the palace is
considered a glamorous architectural masterpiece, its halls combine
many paintings, decorations and rare statues, the museum contains a
priceless collection of the rare jewels that Mohamed Al dynasty
acquired.
Museum Of Alexandria : Its houses artifacts represented in
statues, marble pillars and a collection of coins dated from the
Graeaco-Roman era, in addition of collection of Christian artifacts,
of which the most important is Saint Mina collection.
The Naval Museum : Located at Qayet Bey Citadel. Its combines
models, painting and statues portraying the development of the
navigation and ship building in Egypt, since Pharaonic time until
the present, they also represent the Egyptian sea battles throughout
ages.
The Alexandria Library : The ancient library of Alexandria
has reconstructed by building the new library in Selsela area at
El-Satby district to become one of the greatest cultural and
scientific centers specialized in the affairs, civilization,
literature, sciences and arts of the area so as to attract scholars
from all over the world, it lie beside the Conference Center .
El Alamain Museum : Located 104 km west of Alexandria in El
Alamain area, its include five main halls representing the countries
participate in El Alamain Battle in world war II ( German, England,
Italy and Egypt ) . And a joined hall exhibiting weapons and tanks
which were used in the battle, and paintings representing was
scenes, the maneuvers of the battle and Egypt role during the war.
