of the world`s antiques. Luxor is part of ancient Thebes. The arab
called it Luxor the city of palaces because they were impresssed by its magnificent edifices and huge building. Luxor is 671 km south of Cairo. it remained the seat of power from2100 to 750 BC.
The city of the living is on east bankwhere sunrise is the source of
life, and the city of the dead is on west bank where sunset is the symbol of end of life.

 


East Bank Monuments:


The Temple of Luxor:
it was constructer for the worship of god Amon Ra whose marriage anniversary to his wife Mut was celebrated once a yea. Constructed dates from from AmenhotepII and Ramses II.
The Entrance of the temple is a huge pylon, constructed by Ramses II, It Has two huge statues representing the king seated. Two obelisks precede the temple. One of them still exists and the other is erected at Concorde Square in Paris.

Karnak Temple:
Its includes several temples among which is the temple of Theban Triad
( Amon-Mut- Khonso ). The temple begin with the avenue if Rams then the first and second pylon, then the hypostyle hall which contains 134 columns, then the third pylon where there is the obelisk of Thuhotmosis I to relics of the forth pylon headed by Hatshepsut obelisk that leads to the relics of the forth pylon and from there to the sanctuary, then the huge hall of of ceremonies which dated back to the time of Thuhotmos III. At the end of the tour one reaches the scared lake which lies ouyside the main hall, where a big statue of scarab date back to king Amenhote[ III which was used for purification.

Luxor Museum:
Located between karnak and Luxor temples, it houses Pharaonic relics discovered in Luxor and nearby sites.

Mummification Museum
In center of Luxor, it is the only one for its kind in the world, It houses 150 relics of mummies, coffins, the mummification tools the ancient Egyptian physician used, and paintings representing the religious funerary rituals.

Temple Of Queen Hatshepsut:
Known as "Deir El Bahari". It was established by Queen Hatshepsut, the only women who rules Egypt in the Pharaonic history. The temple consists of three impressive terraces

The Ramesseum:
It is the funerary temple of the king Ramses II. On its walls is recorded the famous battle of Qadesh

Medinet Habu Temple:
It is the funerary temple of king Ramses III with military and religious motifs

Tombs of the Valley of the Kings:
The most important are: The tombs of Tut-Ankh-Amon, Ramses III,SetiI, Ramses VI,AmenhotepII, Hur Moheb, Thutmosis III.
Tombsof the Valley Of the Queens: The finest of the tombs is that of Queen Nefertari, wife of Ramses II
Tombs of the Nobels: The most important are: The Tombs of nakht, Menena, Ra'a Mes, Ramuza,Senefru
Tombs of Deir el medina: The most important is the tomb of Sen Negem

Temple of Dendera
On The West Bank of Qena City 60 km north of Luxor. It is one of the Greco-Roman temples for the worship of goddess Hathor. It was built by King Ptolemy III and its construction was completed by the Roman Emperors, The ceiling of the hypostyle room has an astronomic decoration with the symbolic representation of the sky.

Temple Of Esna
South of Luxor, constructed for the worship of god Khnum, the god of creation, in the form of a ram's head. It is one of the Greco-Roman temples within the hypostyle hall constructed by King Ptolemy VI and completed by the Roman emperors. Nearby is a Christian monastery. It is the monastery of Manaus and el Shohada, constructed in the fourth century. But the Monastery of the three thousand six hundred martyr s includes two churches; the walls of one of them is decorated with frescoes that dares from the tenth century
