It is like a spearhead at the north part of the Red Sea pointing to the south, and the last point at the very south of Sinai peninsula. It is the dividing point between the gulf of Suez to the west and the gulf of Aqaba to the east, Ras Mohamed is certainly the best known diving site in the center Red Sea. Ras Mohamed has two ends, one wearing to east known as Shark Observatory. And one lying cover to the west off which lie the famous reefs, Diving at Ras Mohamed means looking out over the East African tectonic bench, whish is here about 800 meters deep from the vantage point of an underwater garden with healthy multi colored soft corals and grant gorgonians in the middle a great vanely of manner tauna ranging from gray sharks to barracuda and snappers. Packs. Tuna. Humphead wrasses .moray eels and coral fish. Ras Mohamed in 1989 was declared a National park with regulations, like not to collect, remove or damage any material living or dead from the park and not to dive off the marked tracks and never on the beaches by any motor vehicles not to garbage in the park, it is prohibited to walk or anchor on any reef and not to feed the fish. TAKE NOTHING WITH YOU LEAVE NOTHING BEHIND
Corals are living animals that produce a skeleton. Under the night conditions ( clear, warm water) these animals thrive and produce coral reefs. The park contains examples of most geological features found in the south Sinai such as unlined coral reefs, plants, wadis ( valleys ) granitic and sandstone mountains and dunes. An earthquake shook Sinai in 1961 as a result a Crevice appeared and it spels Ras Mohamed rock from north to south. Therefore this supports the theory that Red Sea widens as time goes by.

In fact the distance between the eastern and western shores widen by average of 2.5 cm per year, which means that this sea will grow into ocean in a few millions of years. This Crevice 15 m deep and it is semi-void of marine fauna with the exception of blind species of shrimp.

Ras Mohamed is famous with its different diving spots such as
Yolamda wreck 60 m south African freighter hit a reef near Hurghada but was sunk at Ras Mohamed,
Anemone City a beautiful diving spot, which offers a slopey reef table that extends 20 m before dropping into the infinite deep . Here you will find large colones of hard corals which populates schools of Sweetlips , Surgeonfish and Anemones which is hard to find so many anemones in one spot elsewhere, for that it has this name.

Garden of Eil, Shark Observatory, Jack fish Alley, Za atir , Shark Reef and many other different names of diving spots are in Ras Mohamed. At the end of this short article we don’t forget to mention a important part of Ras Mohamed, which is the Mangroves Channel.

Mangroves Forests like coral reefs as breeding grounds for fish, shrimps, crabs, turtles and other marine fauna.

Shrimps and crabs hide among the roots while fish attach their eggs, larval stage fish hide among the mangroves to protect themselves from larger predators
